My favorite sport

My favorite sport is cricket. It is the most popular sport in sri lanka today.   I like to play cricket everyday.

We play  cricket in the open air. It is very good for our health. Exercises are needed for the development of our body. We geta iot of exercises when playing cricket.

We have a cricket team in our school. Nimali is the captain of our team. She is very clever. I too want to practice hard and play for my school.

Cricket is a team game. It teaches us many good moral values. It teaches us to accept both victory and defeat alike. It also teaches us to work collectively. It is not so easy to win a cricket match. All players have to do their parts well. Cricketers spend hours and hours under the not sun to bring fame to their country.

Both the young and the old like to watch cricket matches. That is why all gather around T.V. sets on days that there are cricket matches. Cricket pares the way to young ones to spend their leisure happily. It also keeps them away from evils such as loitering here and there taking drugs and watching bad films.

Sri Lankan cricket team is world famous. My favorite cricket is Sanath Jayasooriya the sri lankan team.

A please of historical value.

There are many places of historical value in Sri lanka. Sigiriya in one of them.

Sigiriya is a rock fortress built by one of our Sinhalese kings. It was built by king Kasyapa. It is situated in the mat ale district.

Sigiriya is word famous for its frescoes. Hundreds of foreign tourists visit this place everyday. It has become a  popular place among the local tourists too. We can also see the inscriptions on the mirror wall. They are called Graffiti. These verses have been written on this wall by the visitors in ancient times.

The height of the rock is about 600 feet. There are ruins of an ancient palace on the top of the rock. Also  there is a moat around the rock.

Sigiriya is considerable the eighth wonder of the world.

The post man

There are several persons who help us. Among them the postman is an important pe                               He is a hard working man. He has to work six days a week. He has to work even in festive season such as christman, vesak andnew year.

He brings us parcels and letters. He wears a khaki uniform. He rides on his bicycle along way everyday. He delivers letters. Also he collects letters form post boxes. He takes them to the post office.                  He rings the bell at our gates and gives us letters. Everybody knows him well.

In some villages the roads are in a dilapidated condition. So he finds it difficult to ride his bicycle. In rating days the situation becomes worse. But he does his defy in a happy mood. Everybody should appreciate his service.

Vesak festival

Vesak is the most important religious festival to Buddhists.

It is held in the month of May every year. It marks three important events in the life of the Lord Buddha. They are the birth, the enlightenment and the passing away of the Lord Buddha.

We observe ‘Sil’ on this day. We also listen to sermons and other religious talks. We decorate our houses with Vesak lanterns and other decorations. We also illuminate our houses with colored bulbs.

Pandols  are erected at public places. We go on pilgrimages to sacred places. All these acts are meant to purify our thoughts. Special religious programs are implemented by Buddhist associations. Vesak lantern competitions are also held.

Let us live happily in peace and harmony on this important day.

Let’s protect the environment

The environment is the surrounding around us. Water, air, trees, land and beings are the parts of the environment.

Today environmental pollution has become a major problem People pollute the water by mixing poisonous chemicals and waste matter. Air is polluted by mixing smoke and poisonous gases issued through the chimneys of large factories. Land is polluted by collecting garbage. People cut down trees in a careless manner. They never think of the bad effects of it. We get the most needed rain because of the trees. Trees help not only to the man but also to the animals. Birds build their nests on trees. Trees stop the soil erosion too.

We should not put garbage here and there. We should collect the garbage and burn. If we want to lead a healthy life we should keep our environment clean.

We should grow more and more trees. We should keep our gardens clean. Les’s protect our environment.

Good manners.

As school children we must learn good manners. We must always try to be well_ mannered persons. Good manners are essential to live in a good society.

When we meet someone we must greet him by saying’ Good morning or good afternoon’ We must greet him with a smile. When someone offers to help us we must say ‘Thank you very much ’That is a show our gratitude. If we want to speak to someone who is very busy we must say’ Excuse me’. When we have hurt some one by an oversight we much say’ I’m very sorry’.

We must respect our parents, our teachers and our elders. We must not look down upon the poor and the weak. We must always help them. We must appreciate the talents of others. We can say’ how nice’. That’s fine, my congratulations. It is excellent. It is great, keep it up. That will be a great encouragement for the person.

When the teacher comes to the classroom, we must stand up and greet him by saying ‘good morning sir’ only well. Mannered persons can become god citizens.

My village

My village is called Tharaperiya. It is a small village in the Hambantota District in southern Sri Lanka .

There are nearly two hundred families in my village. This is an agricultural area. Most of the villagers are farmers. They grow paddy, fruits and vegetables. Then they take their produce to the village fair. There is a vast stretch of paddy fields around my village. Farmers obtain water from the village tank for their cultivation purposes.

There is a dispensary, a Co-Operative shop, a rural bank, a post office and a historical temple in my villag There are government servants too. Most of them are teachers. There is a Rural Development Society and a Death Donation Society  in my village. The villagers are very friendly. They know the value of self – help.

My village comes under the purview of the Beliattha  Pradeshiya Sabha. The Beliattha, Hakmana main road runs through this village. Villagers live happily and peacefully. I love my village.

Value of trees

Trees are very useful. Both humans and the animals cannot live without them.

Trees provide us food, medicine, timber and shelter. Trees shade us from the scorching rays of the sun. We get the rains that are essential to us because of the trees.

Trees make the environment beautiful. The earth has become a cool, bright and beautiful place because of the trees. Trees prevent soil erosion.

Most people have not realized the values of trees. They cut down trees for their needs in a careless manner. If a tree is cut down we must grow another tree in its place. It we destroy trees the earth would become a desert.

Let us protect the trees.

My ambition.

shashikala-teacher.jpg

My ambition is to be a teacher. If is the noblest  profession  in the world.

The teacher does a great service to the society. He produces well disciplined and useful citizens. People who choose teaching as their profession are fortunate because they can serve the country and also earn a living at the same time. The future of the younger generation depends on the education they receive. The teacher guides them in the correct path.

Teaching is not a monotonous job. Unlike working in a miserable place like a hospital, the teacher is always with the young ones with smiling faces. So he spends his time happily.

The teacher is respected by everyone. He leads an exemplary life. Because of these reasons I like to be a teacher.
